One of the most common questions/concerns voiced by students and prospective students alike is what do I do if I am grabbed and/or taken ground. There seems to be an almost irrational fear of “the grappler.” In truth, grappling has no business on the street or the battlefield (unless it is part of your job). Many pro grappling people claim that the responses dealing with a grappling attack that we focus on would not work in real life and that a real grappling attack would dominate too quickly. This is ironic because virtually everything we teach in response to a grappler is NOT allowed in the UFC or any other combat sporting event. Why is this? Do they NOT allow them because it isn’t effective? No, it is not allowed because if these responses were allowed in the sports people, would genuinely get injured.
Something that is readily accepted in any physical endeavor is you will do under stress what you are trained to do. Because of this, if you are going to prepare for Self Defense, training in a “Combat Sport” school may not be your best choice. This does not mean grappling as a means of self-defense cannot or will not work. The question that needs to be asked is going to the ground, as a rule, the best thing to do? It is not.
This course will teach you how to avoid being grabbed and taken to the ground, but if that cannot be avoided what to do once you hit the ground to get back on your feet. It is not difficult at all. It just requires a change in mindset. You will not be disappointed.
